Well here we are in September and this is my absolute favorite time of year. :-) The entire mushing season is stretched out before us, with a world of potential and plans and possibilities. The colors and the scents of fall....the crisp nights, that first smell of woodsmoke on the air, lighting that first fire in the woodstove...god, I love fall!!!
And Team Sibersong has already been in training for a month. Yup, we got ourselves an early start this year, thanks to mother nature's cooperation along with the fact that I was willing to get up at an ungodly hour to head out with the dogs before the sun even crested the horizon.
The team is just looking amazing this year, but of course it's hard NOT to look fabulous on a 4 mile run, right? No in all seriousness, I notice a definate improvement over last year's team as far as strength and speed. McKinley & Odie's 3 boys really add a lot of power, and the 4 new leaders I'm training up this year all set a pretty fast pace in lead.
Got a big season ahead of us too. We're signed up for the Can-Am 250 again and just yesterday I submitted my entry for the Beargrease Marathon, a 400 mile race in Minnesota. I'll be haunting the Beargrease website until I find out if I managed to get one of the 30 entry slots or not.
Kadee's babies are now just about 14 weeks old and are all still here. These guys were the easiest litter ever to raise so I held on to them a little longer, to give me more time to make a decision on who I'm keeping. Which as of this writing I still haven't quite made, but will by next weekend for sure.
Myst is due with Anthem's babies this week. Her first due date is Wednesday. I keep telling Anthem each evening that he's going to be a daddy any day now and his response is usually, "Yeah, whatever - now rub my belly!" Maybe he's in denial... fatherhood, after all, is a big step.
Between the Kadee litter, the new litter arriving in a few days, 5 girls in heat, a foster dog who moved in with us 2 weeks ago, and my handler for the season arriving with his 2 dogs next weekend....well as you can imagine it's just been a tad crazy over here lately and bound to get crazier before it gets better!
But hell, life would be boring if it were any other way, right?
